Punta Cana Recap!

Punta Cana Recap!

It has been a whirlwind since being back from paradise. I believe the first week after a vacation is always the hardest--getting back into your regular routine, relearning how to relax because you no longer have the soothing beach to help you do that, and to not spend your "free" time planning your next vacation. It has been a very long week, however, I feel like I'm back in the groove of things and ready to get some work done.

I am a firm believer that everyone should take a beach vacation every so often; to not only rejuvenate but also to explore new places and try new things.  I had a nice mix of all of three on my vacation, which for the amount of time I was there (Mon-Fri) it was perfect for a well-rounded vacation. I'm the type of person that loves to do things. It is hard for me to just sit on a beach and do nothing. I love exploring new places, but the way this vacation was set up it was not as easy to go do whatever I wanted. I didn't have a car nor could I walk to something--most things had to be planned. Our stay was at an all-inclusive resort, so "easy" was right there at our fingertips. We had the ability to eat or drink at anytime. We also upgraded to Diamond Club, which allowed for amenities; I will say, all the amenities offered as a member were worth the price. We had private beach access with Diamond Club, for example. {I will get into this more later but the resort's staff was so friendly and accommodating that they even upgraded us for free since we were missing our shower door in our room}. The resort made sure there was something new to do everyday. They brought in vendors and entertainment, gave us the ability to sign up for an excursion, and had tons of food options.

*I think also being in my senior year of college stresses me out enough that it made it easy to just want to read and chill on the beach and only do one excursion.

Alright here is your guide to my Punta Cana vacation:

1. We went through a travel agent and we ended up getting a really good deal on our flight and the resort. The only extra costs we had to consider were any excursions, the spa, tips, and of course shopping. Our travel agent even found a resort with an age policy. I love kids, but it was fun to just be with adults.

2. We stayed at The Chic in Punta Cana, which is an all inclusive resort. I've never been to an all inclusive, but I have to say it was quite freeing when it came to food and drinks. I tried new foods like grouper, mahi mahi, and red snapper. I'm always hesitant to order new foods because if I don't like the dish, then I'm stuck with it. I just don't like to be a hassle at restaurants, so I usually stick to what I know I like. At the resort if there was something I didn't like I could always get something new. I also like the fact if I got full pretty quickly I didn't feel pressured to keep eating in order "to get my money's worth". **One of my favorite things I started doing with all the bartenders was that I would ask them what's their special drink, and they would make me something unique. I always got something different!

The Chic had two types of cabanas: one that you could rent and one that was free to any diamond club member. This is one of the cabanas you rent, however, someone let us have it the rest of the day so we got it for free!!

3. Laying on the beach is so important for the soul. I went with some of my best friends so it was great bonding experience as well. With the diamond club exclusive access, you had the choice of being in the sun or the shade. There was a whole day I just lounged in a cabana--it was mostly because of my awful sunburn, but it was still so nice to have the shade when I needed it. My days consisted of breakfast with a view of the beach. (For some reason on this trip I would naturally wake up at 6:30 or 7, but I couldn't complain because the sunrise was so beautiful!) After breakfast I would head to the beach and probably didn't leave until late afternoon. Something I enjoyed about the restaurants is that they had a dress code policy. It wasn't too strict, but it did give me an excuse to bring more clothes than I needed!! My friends and I used that late afternoon time to "rest from our rest" and get ready for a nice dinner.

4. Even if you are the type to just want to lay on the beach all day, I highly suggest doing at least one excursion! My friends and I chose to do a mini cruise where they took us to a coral reef to snorkel and then from there swim to an enclosed area in the ocean and hangout with some nurse sharks and stingrays. Yes I said it! Sharks!! Okay you may be thinking like no big deal (especially nurse sharks), but I have a HUGE fear of sharks...and the open ocean...so for me to do any of this was big for me! Soooooo...Why did I do it?  I've always wanted to snorkel and this particular excursion is the one my friends wanted to do. So I did it and it was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! Plus they give you alcohol afterwards so I guess you could say that's what was getting me through! The tour agency we booked through was in the hotel and they had a lot of options including inland and ocean excursions. We signed up for the early morning cruise so that way we could rest before going out that night. The cruise was so much fun! They took us to a sandbar after the snorkel, where we danced and had a drink; the crew kept us entertained throughout the whole thing! Next beach vacation I go on, I will be doing something like this again for sure!

5. Last but not least! Travel with your friends more often! We actually met a group of ladies at our resort that have gone on vacation several times together throughout the years, they were so cute! They had matching Yeti cups and shirts, which made us want to carry on the tradition of traveling somewhere ever so often with each other. If you're someone who truly enjoys hanging with their family, traveling with friends always feels different at first, but once you forget that feeling, you know you have found the right friends to go on adventures with!  I ended up having so much fun I forgot to text my parents that I had boarded my plane and we were about to depart for the States. The women we met at the resort called themselves "The Bay Girls". So I encourage you to find your version of "The Bay Girls" for your next vacation! {I know I did}

I hope you enjoyed my recap of my vacation in paradise!! It was definitely one for the books! I also created a gallery of more photos of the trip in my Look Book section, so check it out. To stay updated with everything Art.Life.Fashion follow me on my social media. Links at the top!!
