Hi.

Welcome to my blog! Excited to share all my ideas, adventures, and outfits!

Jumpin' for Jumpsuits!

Jumpin' for Jumpsuits!

Jumpsuits have been back in style for awhile now, but it hasn't been until recently that they've become more accessible or easier to find in stores. Now there are so many different styles, color, and prints. I love jumpsuits because they are so comfortable and extremely versatile. I probably own too many jumpsuits because I am obsessed. The two I'm featuring on this post I recently purchased them for special occasions. In February, I had a semi-formal for my sorority, which means cocktail attire. Okay first, it was 20 degrees outside, and second it was my last semi-formal since I'm a senior. If you haven't figured out by now, I love clothes. I absolutely adore putting together outfits and expressing who I am through my clothes. For this occasion, I wanted to go out with a bang! With that being said, I also didn't want to freeze. I'm all about finding that balance of being fabulous and comfortable!! I decided to go with a jumpsuit, so that way my legs wouldn't freeze and I would remain comfortable throughout the night. I definitely wanted to go all out with this look. The best part was that everything ended up being really practical for the night: my fur coat kept me warm and cozy, my velvet boots were actually quite pleasant to wear, and my bag was the perfect size to carry all of my stuff.

I had a lot of fun picking out this jumpsuit and then pulling accessories from my closet to help enhance the look even more.  I honestly wish I could dress like this more often because I felt so confident and sexy in this outfit. Another great thing about all of these pieces is that they look great separately. I can make new outfits with all of these items!

I had to go up a size for length in the crotch and torso area in order to be comfortable, so it became a little long in the legs and little loose in the chest area. By adding heels and wearing the right bra, I was able to solve both issues. This jumpsuit is definitely not a casual jumpsuit, so flats would look weird with outfit anyway. I love the subtle detailing of the top that makes it unique, but also not too trendy so I can wear it again next winter.

When shopping for jumpsuits the size varies tremendously for me. I find that petite actually works best for my figure because I'm short waisted, however, petite is rarely offered in most stores. If I'm wearing a regular size, I tend to go between a small and a medium. Medium tends to be the size I go with because I find having a little extra length is always way more comfortable. When it comes to shopping for jumpsuits or rompers, you really do have to make the effort to try them on and see what works best for your shape and size. I will say jumpsuits, as popular as they are, can be a hit or miss in the sizing department. Nine times out of ten the way the jumpsuit is made is the issue not the size, so don't get discouraged if one fits you differently or doesn't work. Jumpsuits, I believe, are very flattering on everyone, especially when made well.

The next look, in my opinion, is a must-have staple in your closet: a plain black jumpsuit. Like the khaki trench or a great pair of jeans, a plain black jumpsuit is a MUST when it comes to optimizing your closet. It's perfect for all seasons, you can dress it up or down and in this case, in the pictures below, take it to work and then drinks with the girls.

I do find having a more fitted jumpsuit helps make it more versatile, plus it shows off my body! I love the subtle tapering at the leg, which makes it all the more flattering. Since it is more fitted, it gives me the opportunity to wear flats or even my Adidas and still look proportioned. I am all about playing with proportions and testing the symmetrical side of myself, but at the end of the day I still believe in dressing in what flatters you the best. This look can go in so many different ways. I've already worn this blazer above with it as well my plaid blazer from a few blog posts ago. When on a tight budget, I like to find the items that help maximize my closet and that makes me feel like I have options. I also find it fun to change things up ever so often, SO having basics in my closet is a great way to mix and match without breaking the bank. For the specific look featured, I wanted to keep the accessories simple to show an "office" to "nighttime" look. The earrings are a fun pop of color and the subtle silver from the shoes and cuff allow for a little shimmer, without being too unprofessional.

Your mission for spring/summer: find your staple jumpsuit!! If you're not feeling black or can't find one, I think navy is a great, neutral color as an alternative. Wedding and graduation season is upon us, so instead of grabbing a cocktail dress, think outside the box and look for a fun jumpsuit or romper! Some of my favorite stores that are carrying these styles are: American Thread, Dillards, Anthropologie, and Madewell. All stores have different price points as well as constantly having promotions! And remember: *Think versatility*
